Diepsloot protests persist
Tensions ran high amongst violent protesters in Diepsloot and a heavy police contingent at the weekend. Residents acted in defiance of a government plan to dismantle Diepsloot, one of Johannesburg’s largest shack settlements. The protests are also an expression of anger by those repeatedly left out when the government extends housing and services to other desperate communities.

so they voted for the anc … the same anc who let them down since 1994 …. they still live in shacks … and now riot because the anc they voted for has once again let them down
as sad as their plight is , their continual ignorance and misplaced trust in the govt will continue to stand against them !

Service delivery riots will never stop, as long as we continue to choose rot to replace rot. Our biggest problem lies with the criteria we use when choosing leaders. Useless leaders don’t just walk into positions, we choose them. So in a way, we contribute to the lack of service delivery by making bad choices. We don’t give ourselves a chance to discover talented and hands on leaders with necessary skills, respect for the law and good community values. We have the opportunity to deliver constructively to ourselves, but the choices we make hit hard back on us. Our people must take responsibility, the style of the violence, the burning of shops owned by immigrants- who are working hard to be self reliant- is clear indication that thugs are on the mission to be in charge, and are using the frustrations of the people, and the incompetent councelor will be replaced by another thug, and riots will be back as soon as the next local election is around- because another thug will be taking advantage of our latest culture, of not taking responsibility, aggression and dishonesty. May the forgotten great powers that we posses, the forgotten spirit of uBuntu and the forgotten sense of self-reliance, pour into our daily lives and reign supreme.

It is unbelievable with the high rate of protesting that’s been going on. If its not community members, its teacher if not doctors or construction workers. I don’t know whether to blame this on the recession or the government, but we need to come to terms ith the fact that the standard of living is too high, so does protesting deliver/help the situation? That’s my question

This has just found a way of becoming part of the South African culture. Talks and mechanisms of following proper channels were just created for the few that still believe that violence is not always the answer.
Knowing how S.A police are so trigger happy people should be thinking twice about going out to the streets and taking the law into their hands.
Almost lost a dear friend due to these violence, as she’s a reporter and the company car she was driving was burned to ashes, but happy she’s alive and well.
So putting anyone’s family in the same situation things could be approached differently…Communication is a skill!
Let His will be practised, and the world shall be a better place!

It’s a shame that people have to turn to such actions in order to register their disatisfactions.Aren’t the people in charge aware of their roles? If yes what are they doing about it?The fundamental cause of all these being the continuing huge gap between the haves and the have nots.

I never will understand why these people vote for the ANC time and time again, and see no service, only stealing scum bags. Is it the free t-shirt. Pathetic. Vote these thieves out of power.

I’ll bet all you former beneficiaries of apartheid expect our people to forget that we were treated worse by you and your government which was backed by your fathers and grandfathers. Also bet you never once opened your mouths in opposition to that government’s anti-black human being policies. ANC is not perfect, but it does not execute people for “crimes” against an unjust system.
