JMPD Chief Faces R7m Probe
Johannesburg Metro Police Chief, Chris Ngcobo is facing an official probe into allegations of corruption involving R7 million. The Joburg Metro’s top cop recused himself from his post pending an investigation. Speaking at a press conference, he said he was confident he would be back at work in 90 days.

Chris Ngcobo is an honorable man and the right person for that job, he does not take bribes nor write off traffic fines. He is not lying when he says he is a man of integrity. The allegations have no basis nor substance. The few unlawful elements within JMPD are the ones that want him out and why should he be subjected to the wrath of only 30% of the staff. These are officers that have a hand in the pot that want him out. Why should they be let to have their way so they can continue to push corruption? I hope this is not the domino effect of the former Prez recall where alliance partners have a field day in the ruling party.

I have known Chris for many years, since before he was Chief of JMPD, when he was manager of one of the transitional councils.
I also served on the JMPD Civilian Oversight Committee for many years and had many interactions with him.
I pride msyelf on being able to smell a rat when there’s one around. (Ask Selebi)
I never got that smell with Chris. He always came over as a decent and hard working man, with no conflicts of interest..
I hope that, when the enquiry is completed and it shows (I hope) that he is clean, a public apology will be forthcoming from the accusers.
If, on the other hand, the enquiry does show issues, I will gladly have my nose attended to!

A man who recuses himself generally has nothing to hide. It is the man who refuses to leave his post who is likely to be up to no good…

Having worked in a City Council’s prosecution department for many years, I can say that they do not lightly start an “official” investigation.
Furthermore they never start a case that they cannot win.
