Bongani hits a high note
Audiences will recognise his deep voice from 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s ‘Rude Awakening’ Breakfast show, where he presents the traffic reports. Now Bongani Nxumalo releases his self-titled, debut album. Jason Von Berg chatted to him ahead of the launch at the Silverstar Casino on Tuesday.

I was at the launch of Bongani’s solo singing career and if ever there is a man with absolute “STAR POWER” its this talented performer. He reminds me of those great lounge acts of years gone by like the rat pack trio of Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr and Dean Martin. He claimed that good music is just that “its good music” and he refused to be defined by a particular genre or style. Bongani makes a valid point about musicians dying poor and it is sincerely hoped that he goes on to a long and happy career where we know he will build a strong following and protect himself from the vagaries of the music industry. I think he can do it! Peace, Love & Respect- Bra G.

I think most South African artist will learn a lot from Bongani, that we should stop being cheap imitation of US music and find our original music, the music that define Mzansi
